Wow…. have you given up on me??

Written on 03/05/2013

I probably would if I were you! Something kinda happened to me when we moved into this lil itty bitty apartment. My motivation for anything other than survival became zilch  Even as I type this I am being bombarded with screams, questions, whining, jumps from the couch onto my lap, spilled water, requests for candy, food, snacks and pure insanity from my girls and it’s kinda taking everything in me not to take my lap top into my car so I can write just HALF a blog for crying out loud! Anyway….

There’s been SO much going on since my last post.

Biggest thing is we actually for REALs bought a house. Yes. I have the keys and debt to prove it :-) We couldn’t be happier and each day I am closer and closer to a hot cup of coffee, birds chirping in my backyard, rainbows above my head, unicorns dancing around me, my girls playing outside and ME sitting peacefully at my new kitchen table in my new house writing a BIG blog basically recapping our lives since Christmas!

It will happen.

Until then….. I will keep on keeping on!

Mod Cloth Rules!

Written on 11/24/2012

This store is so fabulous. I’ve been online searching for unique gifts for friends and I saw that they are giving new customers $15 off a purchase of $50 or more! So, of course I am sharing the love! So go on! There’s about any and every cute, gorgeous, wonderful, and unique thing on this site you could imagine!

Tis the season!

Written on 11/21/2012

Ok friends! I know more of you are craftier than you let on so I am going to share some fabulous gift making ideas for you! I’ll probably be at the mall buying up gift cards and already made gifts but I’ve proven myself in the “make-a-gift” section in life, now it’s your turn! It’s fun, rewarding, creative and best of all…. anyone can make their own beautiful and unique gifts.

When you make a gift for someone you want it to be nice. It can be borderline “preschool” when you just whip up a handmade gift. You need to think outside the box. You need to think of things YOU would actually buy!

When I think of these things I come up with a few ideas…

Cosmetics

Candles

Scarves

Jewelry

Ok, let’s start with these things.

Cosmetics. I know. You’re all like “WTF!?” but seriously! Make someone their own delicious hand lotion! Check out this easy and adorable lotion recipe I found

You could also make someone a delicious salt or sugar scrub. In case you missed my post last year…. here’s another fun easy recipe. I LOVE salt and sugar scrubs. And they make amazing gifts!

Candles. Again. So easy and who doesn’t love a stinking candle!? There are so many places to buy the materials needed. Just google what you are looking for. Etsy is a great place for supplies as well!

A cozy yummy scarf to survive winter in Oregon. This makes as much sense as drinking a bottle of wine and two Twix bars after a long hard day with your kids. In other words, it’s genius!

Now this does require some sewing skills. If this just gave you a mini heart attack this one is WAY cute and sewing machine FREE!

Now. Jewelry. This could go really well or really bad. Bad as in you could lose a friend so choose this option wisely. This one is probably no-fail. But don’t hold me to that. And you probably don’t want to make every girl in the church choir one or you might want to start screaming profanities and stabbing people’s eyeballs out. (It looks pretty detailed and time consuming).

So if you have as little patience as me…. this might be better.

So there’s a few things to start with. If all this handmade is making you throw up a little in your mouth, just shop handmade and call it a day!

Using e-bates to get money!

Written on 11/19/2012

So I wanted to post this before I forgot! My brain is officially mush after last weekend! Post on that coming later…

Anyway. If you are like me and you love shopping online this site is stinking amazing. I’m seriously NOT into signing up for stuff online that promises money back etc. but a friend who is a major legit coupon queen shared it and because I totally trust her I checked it out. It’s bomb.

Basically you go to the site, sign up, choose the store you want to shop at (there’s literally about any store you could think of) some of my frequents include, Nordstrom, Old Navy, Amazon, Groupon Etc…. Anyway you get a percentage back for whatever you spend and they mail you a check every 3 months. And they automatically give you the latest coupon code to use before you shop! ALSO you get a $10 gift card (I chose target) when you spend your first $25! I’m a little giddy.

Another thing. The Thomas family doesn’t use Credit cards. We don’t even have one! We’re cash or nothing kinda people so this is a great way to get some rewards for shopping without having to sign up for a credit card.

So do yourself a favor and go sign up. And share this goodness with friends!

That little thing called “The Holy Spirit”

Written on 11/12/2012

It can be a tricky thing. It sounds all like, “Duh. It’s the holy spirit and when you trust in Jesus you like live by it and stuff. BAM!”

There’s so many bible verses about it. They sound so encouraging and so promising. One of my personal faves is Galations 5:16-26.

Galatians 5:16-26 (Source: Biblegateway.com)

New International Version (NIV)

16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever  you want. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

But in life and reality walking in the spirit is no easy task. It’s not even all that easy (for me) to understand in fact. I like to think of it as  a way of my mind and heart being led. I see something, I think one thing, then I think of how not nice that was to think it, then I fight with all my might not to SAY it, then I don’t say it and I am oh-so-grateful I didn’t. Or I DO say it and feel instant regret and sometimes I even live with a few repercussions, all because I didn’t listen to what The Holy Spirit was telling me. I was acting out in my flesh.

Let’s use instagram as an example.

Rhonda (Not real) posts a picture of a big fat cheeseburger with this as her caption,

“Well, I guess the baby weight will have to wait!”

A few facts about Rhonda.

-She’s gorgeous

-She’s insanely skinny and probably only gained 3 lbs when she was preggers.

-She works out A LOT.

-She had no business saying anything about “baby weight” but whateva.

So in my mind when I see that I wanna be like

“Biotch!? WHAT baby weight! Geeze! I gained like 10000 lbs. THAT’S baby weight! You so skinny you can use dental floss and toilet paper!

But before my little chicken pecking fingers could type all that garbage out my mind had a serious cloud of conviction. I realized Rhonda is just like me. She’s a woman. She’s insecure. She’s seeking the world’s approval and most of all she was seeking love NOT hate. So instead of my brilliant comment I said nothing and prayed first for myself and then for her.

I notice several comments (same genre but not as clever as mine would have been) already building up. I was thankful my convictions refrained me from joining in. Next thing I know the picture Rhonda posted was deleted. She deleted it.

Now I imagine it was deleted because of how bad those comments made her feel and she was a bit embarrassed by them.

Sad story but there’s some truth to it.

I want to know what life is like living by the spirit all the time. I want my first reactions and responses to be love, not hate. I want people to see Jesus in me because of The Holy Spirit.

Let’s pray for each other. It’s simple.

Let’s pray that God will show us the simplicity of walking in the spirit. I believe the enemy (satan) loves to complicate this spiritual way of living because it is against everything he is.

‘Cause the Fruit of the spirit (Holy spirit) is Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self-Control.

Who wouldn’t want more of that?

Totes cray cray up in here!

Written on 11/01/2012

Top of the morning to ya! I’m sick as a dog and my house is a wreck but hey! I have two buckets full of Halloween candy to eat! I’m good! Since it’s been so long since I have blogged and I don’t even remember which events I have missed, let’s just pick right up and start with our family beach trip last weekend and Halloween!

Our little family escaped to the Coast for a couple nights. It was MUCH needed and well, there’s not much I love more than vacations with my family!  We swam, ate, lounged, shopped, ate more, slept, swam and even got to play on the beach a little. Penny was all up in that bizness! It’s pretty cute watching a ball of fluff run around on a huge open beach. My girls love the Oregon coast too. They don’t care about the wind or even the rain for that matter! They dig in and get right to work building castles.

Our little vacay came to an end and the next day was Halloween! Call me totes cray cray but we kinda love dressing up and getting candy. That’s really all Halloween is to us. The girls were exceptionally cute in their costumes and the weather gave us a break and we got to walk a few blocks with some good friends and get some good candy! Vin even trained Isla to ask if her daddy could have a piece of candy too so we totally scored doubles!

I’ve included some pictures of this and that. Enjoy!

Also, I want to let everyone know I will have a booth at the Holiday Heritage Faire again this year! It’s a gorgeous Christmas Faire that you wont want to miss! I’ve got mounds of goodies I have been making and sewing and creating! I can’t wait! Last year was awesome but this year will be even better! It’s a great place to get your Christmas shopping done! I’ll post a link to where you can snag up a coupon for the Pre-show, November 16th. You’ll get to browse around before the doors open Saturday and drink wine and eat yummy appetizers. Can you say Girls night!?

So visit HERE for the coupon and PLEASE let me know if you are going to come! I would LOVE to say hello!

Now on to the eye candy!

Penny all fluffy before….

And Penny after a mad dash into the ocean. Naughty Pup.

Yeah, we need cake pops to survive Goodwill sometimes!

This little cutie had Orange Day. She helped me make that bow! She was all “Wow, Mom! You are like so good with that hot glue gun!”

Fall is glorious here in the valley.

Working the streets fo some canday!

Trick-or-treating!

And this was my view after the girls went to bed.

Thanks for reading!

Blessings!

Kesha.

Pacific to the North to the West.

Written on 10/02/2012

Well, it’s that time of year again. That time when my husband looks at me one day and just knows……. It’s time for a mommy-vacay. My partner in crime and I pack up once a year and hit the road (sometimes if we’re super lucky we hit the airplane) and get our a$$’s outta Salem, and more importantly outta our houses!

This year was Seattle. I love this city. It has so much to offer two stay at home moms. There is a plethora of coffee shops and cute places to eat. There is great shopping. There is a ton of weird people to stare at and appreciate. The view from any hotel room is exceptional and it’s just a beautiful city. Jess and I love to walk around and see the sights. We love to find the perfect little cafe and sit and drink a beautifully handcrafted latte and munch on delicious fresh baked pastries. We’re pretty much a traveling match made in heaven. We just always have a great time no matter what!

So here’s a little snip-it of our weekend away. It always goes by too fast, but I know we both agree that we usually can’t get back to our sweet families fast enough :-)

Home is where the heart is.

Starting the weekend antique shopping.

The view from our room

Our Seattle attire.

Doing some “wish” shopping. And drooling.

Having coffee for the 3rd time probably. It’s Seattle. It’s what you do there.

Found my car doppelganger

Lunch

More coffee….. (heart)

Just some Seattle-quirkiness for ya.

Our second time at this amazing bakery/cafe.

The best scone I have ever eaten. It really was.

More coffee.

Oh good! Butt pads! Just what I need. (weird)

Top Pot Doughnuts.

Makes sense the only word that got in the picture was “nuts”. That’s just how I roll.

Yep.

Yep.

Goodbye you beautiful city!

Until next time, Seattle.

Pray. Relax. Let go. And let God do the rest.

Written on 09/20/2012

I believe in  Jesus. I trust in Him and believe in my salvation through Him (1 Peter 2:24) He asks me to rest in Him (Matthew 11:28-30). He tells me not to spend a single moment worrying about anything (Matthew 6:34). He says He has a GOOD plan for my life (Jeremiah 29:11).

Now why do I insist on waking up each morning and being in control? Especially when this method of living has proven to be filled with failure, disappointment, anxiety, stress, worry and everything else in that realm.

I’m exhausted by this.

Today I am praying for you, and for me that God will reveal himself in a way that truly grabs hold of our hearts. For He knows how tired we are and how much we need to rest in His love. God knows we can’t try to control everything a second longer. God knows we need Him and that is why He has given himself to us. All we need to do is believe Him. (Acts 16:30)

I encourage you to read those passages. If you are reading this post you can simply google each verse and you can see for yourselves the goodness in God’s words to us. God’s word is truth (John 17:17) and it brings peace to your life!

Lord help us.

<3,

A Tired Momma.
